Atul Kulkarni is one of the finest actors in the industry today, having delivered path-breaking performances in movies like Rang De Basanti, Chandni Bar and Hey Ram, amongst others. After many years of acting on camera, Atul donned the writer’s hat with Laal Singh Chaddha, an official remake of Hollywood cult classic, Forrest Gump. However, the movie tanked at the BO, with the #boycottbollywood trend severely hampering business.
ETimes recently caught up with the actor-writer, asking him to share his thoughts about the failure of a massive project like Laal Singh Chaddha. Atul was quick to retort and said, “I’ve been in the industry for a fairly long time and have experienced such things. Every time you start a project, you think people will like and love it; sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t. So, you cannot change the texture of the profession.”
Atul also brushed apart the #boycottbollywood trend that swept the industry, saying, “I think it should be completely left to the audience to decide whether they want to see something or not, be it a film or a painting. No one should dictate what I should consume…”
Atul also gave his two cents on the happenings in the country and said, “One should not neglect politics. I get deeply affected with what is happening, not only in the state, but across the globe.”
He further added, “You cannot and shouldn’t shrug it off because whatever you do in life, at the root of it all is politics it dictates everything that matters to you.”
On the work front, Atul is all set to reprise his role as politician Amey Rao Gaikwad in Nagesh Kukunoor’s web series City of Dreams.
