There are many extraordinarily dedicated sons in Bollywood. But none like Sanjay Leela Bhansali. His mother is not only his entire world, she is the pivot on which his universe revolves. Apart from the time when he is shooting he spends all his time with his mother.
“She is now old and frail. But by God’s grace in good health. My mother is always a livewire. Even if she is unwell she remains in good spirits. During her medical checkups she has the doctors in splits. So if you ask me about what is the one quality that I’ve inherited from her I would have to say, it is this determination to remain undefeated by adversity,” says SLB who began the no-rampant tradition in Bollywood of using a parent’s first name as the middle name.
Sanjay says when he decided to call himself Sanjay Leela Bhansali he didn’t think he was starting a trend. “But if people are honouring their parents in their names then I say, that’s a start! We need to do a lot more for our parents. Sadly, my father didn’t get to see me make a success of my life. But my mother’s blessings have been with me all the way. I don’t think I would be worth anything without her.”
