Killers of the Flower Moon” is an upcoming film directed by Martin Scorsese and based on the book of the same name by David Grann. The film stars Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser, among others. It tells the true-crime story of the Osage Murders that took place in early-1920s Oklahoma, where Native Americans were systematically eliminated for their wealth from oil reserves.

The film portrays the cold calculation, corruption, greed, and hypocrisy that permeated the events surrounding the murders. It highlights the contempt shown towards the Osage people and their rich cultural heritage, as well as the orchestration of their genocide by powerful individuals. Robert De Niro plays Bill “King” Hale, an affluent cattle rancher and one of the chief orchestrators of the crimes. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Ernest Burkhart, Hale’s nephew and a tormented character who becomes involved in the nefarious plot.

Lily Gladstone delivers a standout performance as Mollie Kyle, Ernest’s wife and a central character in the film. Her portrayal of Mollie, a strikingly direct woman surrounded by deceitful men, brings depth and emotional weight to the story.

The film explores themes of money, violence, guilt, and atonement, with Scorsese delving into the historical erasure and political gamesmanship that resonate even in today’s divisive climate. The runtime of the film is three and a half hours, but its escalating tragedy and gripping narrative justify the length.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is set for a fall release, with a limited theatrical release on October 6, followed by a wider release on October 20. It will also be available for streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date.

Overall, the film is expected to be a powerful drama that tackles a shocking true-crime story while shedding light on the historical injustices faced by Indigenous Americans.
