Democratic US senator Raphael Warnock has said that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s decision to sell Bible branded under his name is “risky business”, Guardian reported.

Speaking to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, Warnock said: “The Bible does not need Donald Trump’s endorsement.” The Democrat is the pastor of Atlanta’s historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.

“It’s a risky bet because the folks who buy those Bibles might actually open them up, where it says things like thou shalt not lie, thou shalt not bear false witness, where it warns about wolves dressed up in sheep’s clothing.”

“I think you ought to be careful. This is risky business for somebody like Donald Trump.”

Trump, running for the second time against President Joe Biden, has recently asked people to Trump-endorsed Bibles for $59.99.

Warnock said he wasn’t amazed at Trump’s bid to sell bibles as he had his ongoing presidential campaign and hefty legal bills to pay.

“Now he’s trying to sell the scriptures […] At the end of the day, I think he’s trying to sell the American people a bill of goods.”
